PROGRAM

The One You Feed Personal Transformation Program is a 1-on-1 coaching program where you work with me, Eric Zimmer, as your coach, one month at a time.

Here’s the deal: You know the change you want to make in your life.

You see it, you want it and you just need a little help getting there. Trying again and again to go at it alone is one of the top reasons people aren’t successful in making changes in their lives.

The truth is, you can actually do far more than you think you can.

The reality is, in order to do so, you need someone in your corner with you, teaching you, step by step, what science, research and example has to say about getting there.

Essentially, it’s not you it’s your approach. You need to know the “how”.

That’s where I can help. The guidance and support that I offer is pragmatic, practical, action-based, research driven, realistic, behavioral, and non-judgmental.

Keep reading to see if this program is right for you . . .

Does any of this sound like you?

  • I go to bed so many nights beating myself up for all the things I should have done that I didn’t do.
  • I feel stuck in my current place in life.
  • I wake up feeling a sense of dread about going to work each day.
  • I have an idea of something I’d like to do in life but I don’t even know where to start.
  • I’d like to start living a healthier lifestyle (exercising, eating healthier) but after a few days, I’m back to my old ways.
  • It seems like I’ve been writing my thesis forever. I’ve got to get this thing finished.
  • I listen to the podcast and I’d like some 1-on-1 help on how to “feed my good wolf” in a certain area in my life.

What's my approach to coaching?

I am a behavior coach.

What does that mean? Well, it means that when we work together we will focus mostly on your behaviors - what’s working, what’s not working and finding practical steps that you can take to get you to the place you want to go.

Being a behavior coach means that we can clearly describe, in observable terms, what the change looks like in your life that you want to make. The benefit is that we can determine whether or not we’ve met our goal and whether or not I’ve helped you at the end of the program.

Being a behavior coach is different than being a therapist.

Therapy spends a lot of time focusing on the past; what happened, what caused you to be where you are, your childhood memories/experiences etc.

In a session with a behavior coach, most of the time is spent focusing on moving forward, with only some time spent discussing what behaviors have been problematic for you in the past. Most of the time is spent finding ways to create and support the behaviors that will help you to reach your goal.

The benefit of focusing on behaviors?

It typically takes a shorter amount of time to see the kind of change that you want.

Not only is behavior coaching an expeditious path to achieving results, but it is also highly successful in helping you maintain the behaviors and results over time. The follow through involves teaching you self coaching strategies so that you can sustain the changes you’ve made long term.

Behavior coaching is evidence based in that it applies recent behavioral science research to bring about measurable, sustainable learning acquisition and change. Specifically, the five primary influences to behavior based coaching are Neuropsychology/Neuroscience, Evolutionary Psychology, a Cognitive-Based Approach, and a Solution-Focused Approach.

Behaviors are learned and can be “unlearned” - a behavior is not someone’s innate personality. Behaviors, contrary to traits, can be observed, assessed and measured.

This means that if you’re not seeing the progress that you want to see, we can figure out what is getting in your way and change our approach accordingly. This isn’t a punitive exercise.

It’s collaborative and supportive.

“I hired Eric to coach me after being a fan of his podcast for a long time. He coached me for a short time but in that short amount of time, he really helped me in my job search. First, he helped with supporting me in creating a structure so I’d have time blocked out. I was having trouble getting moving with my job search. He helped me to find a way that worked for me, to build that into my day.

Another thing Eric helped me with was to confront my fear of negotiating. He coached me in coming up with what salary was acceptable for me, with all the details of how to communicate this, etc and ultimately, I didn’t take a job that wasn’t worth it for me, due to the salary not being sufficient, given the long commute.

Eric is very specific and laser-like with the support and advice he provides. His suggestions etc..show that he knows his stuff. He customizes his coaching to what works for the person and he provides a space of no pressure. I was there, working with him because I wanted to be, not because he pushed me in other words. It was easy to be coached by him and I feel it would be easy to be coached by him again.

My takeaway was that I learned ways to set up a structure that helped me get things done, in an area I resisted and I learned to gain confidence in negotiating my salary. Normally, I’d be likely to settle for a job/salary that didn’t work for me. I didn’t do this and I ended up finding something else with better pay, a much closer commute and in a position that is much more of a fit for me.”

“Two things he delivered to me at the perfect time in my life were A.) that I had to get over the idea that things will be better when “this” happened, or “that” happened. Generally speaking, Eric would always talk about “mental clutching” and how I try to manage the manifestation of success into reality. Eric helped me recognize the patterns and the core beliefs that kept me in a circle of pain and frustration. That in order to attain happiness; it was through the perfect relationship, more money, tons of sex, or spiritual enlightenment; none of which are final. Continuous small repetitive actions help change the experience I have with interacting with seeking what I want without attaching to the idea of attaining it or taking ownership of it, so no one could have it but me.

One other thing I always thought was considerably unique when working with Eric was the feeling I would get after we had a call together. I would say that I know when I’m making progress in the direction by tapping into this type of intuition. The way in which we interacted around certain topics I was afraid to talk with anyone else about left me with a feeling of forwardness and investigative vigor. Sometimes I feel doomed or trapped by the boxes I put myself in psychologically. As a seeker of growth, and a scoffer of how I don’t need help; I made extra effort to walk the balance beam of living a healthy life. Or if you will, I let the Wolves eat without any real understanding around how one got hungrier than the other! Something would click during our sessions that fed the good one something he had never eaten before, and that is what I continue to seek even though we haven’t worked together for a while.”

Who is Eric?

I am a dad, serial entrepreneur, podcast host, behavior coach and author. I'm endlessly inspired by the quest for a greater understanding of how our minds work and how to intentionally create the lives we want to live.

At the age of 24, I was homeless, addicted to heroin and facing long jail sentences. In the years since, I have found a way to recover from addiction and build a life worth living for myself.

I currently host the award-winning podcast, The One You Feed, based on an old parable about two wolves at battle within us. With over 200 episodes and more than 10 million downloads, the show features conversations with experts across many fields of study about how to create a life worth living.

These experts include scientists, authors, researchers, teachers, thought leaders, spiritual gurus and public figures and all offer practical, actionable wisdom that our listeners can readily apply to their lives in order to act their way into a better, more fulfilling life.

In addition to producing the show, I work as a behavior coach and have done so for the past 20 years.

I have coached hundreds of people from around the world.

My story and my work have been featured in the media including TedX, Mind Body Green, Elephant Journal, BBC and Brain Pickings.
